Review
I had seen the trailer for
The Baytown Outlaws and wasn’t overly impressed. From what was laid out in its
2 minutes, seemed to be very Mad Max 2 set in the deep south of America. I rented all the same as I fancy a dumb action
flick every now and then.
What I got what a brilliant low budget film with the redneck version of the Tremor brothers from Smokin’ Aces, some dumb fun action, superb characters and a real emotional connection for those charged with carrying the film of which, the on screen chemistry between sibling is outstanding.
Said brothers are hired to kidnap their employers godson from her drug dealing king pin ex. They go in, have a polite conversation, are given the boy and they return him, to receive their spoils. That wouldn’t be a very good film. So, safe to say, the film is completely opposite to that. Cue guns, snappy dialogue, brotherly love and more guns.

It will not receive
accolades from it’s peers who shell out useless golden statues to films with
budgets high enough to end poverty in a small country, but it should sit with a
steadily growing shelf of directors and writers who are making films the way
they want and not how society and big studios are dictating they should be.
A really good addition to some truly superb films of 2012 that were overlooked in favour of big budget movies, The Baytown Outlaws should definitely be given a chance. If you don’t agree with my opinion then that is your prerogative, but you cannot deny that it has most elements of what should make a good couple of hours of escapism and entertainment.
From what you have read, you can see that I really liked this film and it will be in my favourites of last year (2012).
