Who remembers the show, The Six Million Dollar Man, starring Lee Majors? The awesome theme tune, the crash in the opening credits that put test pilot Steve Austin in a coma, the bionic parts they fitted him with, the high speed running and what about the "BADADADADADADA" noise as he leaped over fences and walls (your variation on the sound may differ)?
What a great series and one that needs to be re-watched and redone.
Well, finally, it looks like the movie is about to go into production. I say finally because it has been floating around Hollywood for over a decade. At one time, Jim Carey was in talks to play Austin. Yes, I know, rubber-faced funnyman Jim Carey. Which I assumed meant they were going down the root of the big screen version of Starsky & Hutch which was played very "tongue in cheek".
But today, Mark Wahlberg's name has been re-attached to the project after he and Lone Survivor director Peter Berg announced their interest in reviving the hit 70's tv show.
Obviously the name will get an upgrade from Six Million to Six Billion to reflect the times and the tech they fit the character up in will be a lot more sophisticated than back in the day.
Filmmaker Damián Szifron, who wrote and directed Wild Tales (a nominee for Best Foreign Film at the 2015 Oscars), has already been tasked with writing the screenplay.
Fingers crossed the project stays alive and finally gets a well deserved big screen adaptation.
